First glimpse of Golden Lane Campus revealed

The innovative new Golden Lane campus came one step closer to reality with the appointment of Islington-based Nicholas Hare architects by Islington Council and CEA@Islington. Visuals prepared by the team show a building of high architectural and design quality, aimed at creating one of London’s best teaching and learning environments.

The campus will bring together Richard Cloudesley special school, Prior Weston primary school and Fortune Park Sure Start Children’s Centre.

The new building will combine the children’s centre, 420 place primary school and the primary department of the special school for 30 pupils with physical impairment; all operating in an integrated, inclusive environment, and offering a full range of services to children and families.

The campus will offer an extended school day, open 49 weeks a year and will include holiday schemes and respite care for physically challenged and sick pupils. Education and care will be provided all day with extended days for working parents.

Cllr James Kempton, executive member for regeneration and education, said:

“The exciting plans for the Golden Lane Campus is just one of the many ways that will see major improvements to Islington schools, taking us a step further towards creating an education service fit for the twenty-first century.

"The campus will offer sensory therapy, a new sports hall, crèche and a cafe. Once open, we will we have a modern, inclusive school that integrates pupils with special needs as well as a resource available to the whole community. "
