Estelle Morris opens 'quiet garden' at Grafton School
Arts Minister, Estelle Morris, visited Grafton Primary School on Wednesday 16
March 2005 to open the school’s new ‘Quiet Garden’.
Children at the school worked with artists and landscape designers from
Creative Partnerships to create the garden, which is described by headteacher
Nitsa Sergides as ‘a little paradise’.
Grafton school’s Quiet Garden is an enclosed, secluded area where children can
read, play contemplative games such as chess, and sit down on the grass to
socialise.
“It’s good to offer children this resource, and I know that they will enjoy
using the garden because they have taken a part in creating it,” said head
teacher Nitsa Sergides.
Two years ago, Ms Morris presented the school with a cheque for £500,000 to
redevelop their sports hall, and she was keen to see the finished result.
Bill Clark, Director of Schools’ Services, CEA@Islington said: “We’re very
pleased to welcome back Arts Minister Estelle Morris. Her visit will help to
celebrate and recognise the creative contribution of Grafton pupils, who have
worked to add something really special to their school environment.”
