GB Olympic star to attend schools hockey festival
GB Olympic star Hilary Rose will be attending the inaugural Islington
secondary school hockey festival.
The first ever secondary school hockey festival will take place at the JVC
centre, Highbury Stadium on Wednesday 18 May between 11am and 3pm. Teams from
St Aloysius, Holloway, Highbury Fields, Islington Green, IAMS and Mount Carmel
schools will compete in boys under 14 and girls under 14 competitions. London
Active Partnership has sponsored the event, providing the schools with free
goalkeeping equipment for entering.
Hilary Rose, Ex-Great Britain women’s hockey goalkeeper, who represented GB in
the Olympics on two occasions, will not only present the winners with their
medals and trophy but will deliver a coaching clinic to the young hockey
players.
The tournament has been organised by CEA@Islington’s School Sports
Co-ordinator (SSCO) Programme. Sarah Fretwell, Manager of the SSCO Programme
said: ‘This hockey competition is another new borough sports tournament that
has been introduced to Islington this year. It is a great achievement for
Islington, particularly with the lack of facilities for hockey in the borough.
It will also be a fantastic opportunity for the children to meet Hilary Rose,
which will hopefully give them an incentive to take their hockey further’.
