Mount Carmel to open £1 million technology block
Mount Carmel RC Technology College will be hosting an official opening
ceremony for its brand new technology block on Tuesday 14 June 2005 at 2.00pm.
The state of the art building was funded by Islington Council and cost £1.3
million. The block has been expertly designed and is full of high-tech
equipment that will enable the college to meet the growing needs of its
specialist status demands.
The two-storey building has been open for use since October 2004 and contains
a graphics room, textile studio, design rooms, a heat bay and a resistant
material room.
Mayor Jonathan Dearth will officially open the block on Tuesday following an
opening speech by Councillor James Kempton, Executive Member for Children, and
a blessing by Bishop George Stack, Chairman of Westminster Education Diocese
Board. Over 80 parents, governors, staff and education officer are expected to
attend the event where they will be able to tour the building and speak to
students who will be demonstrating how to use the new equipment.
Paul Kehoe, Headteacher of Mount Carmel said: ‘Our new technology block is a
great facility complete with the most state of the art equipment that all our
students can use. These facilities will help us to continue to meet the
demands of our specialist technology college status.
‘I would like to thank Islington Council for the generous funding that made
this building possible, and also Chris Eisen, Mount Carmel’s former
headteacher, whose vision it was to secure these facilities for our school.’
Councillor James Kempton, Executive Member for Children said: ‘We are
committed to providing the very best facilities in our schools. All our
secondary schools will be transformed over the next 10 years, to build even
further on the improvements already made in standards.’
You are invited to send a journalist/photographer to attend.
