Children’s Preventative and Early Intervention Consultation

Children's Preventative and Early Intervention Consultation

Islington Council and its major partners have developed a clear vision of what they want for the borough's children. Service integration sits at the heart of ensuring that "Every Child Matters" and in Islington this will be achieved in a number of ways, including children's centres and extended schools.

One underlying issue that needs to be addressed will be the balance which is struck by the key partner agencies between prevention, early intervention and treatment in children's lives. Children can be helped before problems appear (prevention), once the problems have appeared but are not entrenched (early intervention) or once the problems have become well established (treatment).

The purpose of developing this strategy is to provide this clarity and direction, and to get the balance right.

The draft strategy is aimed at providing the stimulus for this reflection. The plan is that this draft strategy will be considered by a range of organisations, individuals and forums whose work impacts on the lives of children. It is set out in a way that asks specific questions to elicit ideas on the most critical issues; however, all ideas and comments will be welcomed.

Consultation on this draft strategy will take place until 15 August . You can find out more about the consultation by visiting Islington Council's website.
