Pupils bring their dads to school
Pupils at Yerbury Primary School will be bringing their Dads to school
throughout next week to raise the profile of men in bringing up their
children. David Blunkett, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, recently
said, “It is very important for men to play a large part in raising children
for the benefit of children, men and society as a whole.”
Pupils’ fathers, or male members of their family, will be coming into school
throughout the week to participate in a range of activities with the children,
including reading, cooking, showcasing their skills and talking about their
careers.
One father will be kicking the week off on Monday 20 June at 9.30am with a
display of Kung Fu for the children. Mr Yi Shi is a parent of a Year 6 pupil
and a Kung Fu Master at the Shaolin Temple in Tufnell Park.
“A father is a person who loves you very much. He is never tired of hearing
your jokes,” Eduardo, aged 8.
“Dads are very good at working in the garage and mucking the house up,”
Joanna, aged 8.
Mary Gibson, Headteacher of Yerbury School said, “Male role models play an
important part in a child’s education and development. I am sure that next
week will be both interesting and enjoyable for the children and their
fathers, grandfathers, uncles and brothers.”
