Holloway Secondary School
has been awarded a project grant of £16,000 from the Jack Petchey Foundation
to support further development of the school’s successful SHINE Academy, which
aims to raise the attainment of underachieving Year 7 students.
The presentation of the £16,000 cheque will be on:
Date: Friday 23rd September 2005
Time: 1.30pm
Venue: Holloway School, Hilldrop Road, N7 0JG
The Holloway School SHINE Academy opened its doors in September 2003 and has
since helped over 140 Year 7 students to boost their attainment and benefit
from the out-of-hours learning on offer each Saturday throughout the school
year. Students at the Academy have the opportunity to focus on key skills of
literacy and numeracy, and also ICT, sports, dance and drama. Students are
also treated to enriched curriculum-related trips to places like the National
Space Centre in Leicester.
Brendon Mounter, Head of Year 11 and leader of Holloway’s SHINE Academy said:
“I am delighted that we shall be working in partnership with the Jack Petchey
Foundation. Their support will help us to achieve clear and challenging
learning outcomes for Year 7 students over the next year”.
Stephen Corriette, Grants Manager for the Jack Petchey Foundation will present
the cheque. He said, "We are confident that this grant will be of tremendous
value and benefit to young people at the Academy. The work being done here
truly nurtures the whole person. We are delighted to support this positive
