Islington schools take part in BBC’s "Pitch Perfect" concert
Talented students from every Islington secondary school will be taking part in
a prestigious
BBC concert, celebrating the art of the football anthem.
Students are currently in rehearsal – with instruments, and in choirs – to
perform football anthems at 7.30pm on Friday 18 November at the Wembley
Conference Centre.
Bill Clark, Director of Schools’ Services, CEA@Islington was delighted to hear
of how the project would bring sport and music together with the added bonus
of meeting and working with such prestigious groups as the BBC Concert
Orchestra and the BBC Singers.
He said, "I am so pleased that the young people of Islington have responded so
positively to
Pitch Perfect. It will be something they will remember with fondness
throughout their lives. I'm really looking forward to the final performance."
The concert at Wembley will be in two halves:
First half:
Music associated with football: Nessum Dorma,
You'll never Walk Alone, Theme from the Great Escape etc. The first half will
be performed by the BBC Singers and BBC Concert Orchestra, along with The
Islington Schools' Big Band.
Half time
Second half:
The premiere of "Pitch Perfect": BBC
singers, massed choirs of Arsenal and Chelsea (500 Islington and Kensington &
Chelsea pupils), adult community choirs of Arsenal and Chelsea, BBC orchestra.
There will be 1200 free tickets to this unique event. They are available from

Pitch
Perfect is an exciting BBC project which brings together the BBC Concert
Orchestra, the BBC Singers, BBC Sport, Arsenal FC, Chelsea FC and young people
from Hammersmith, Fulham and Islington culminating in the performance of a new
football anthem at Wembley Conference Centre on 18 November 2005.

The combined resources of over 80 professional BBC musicians will perform
alongside choirs and instrumental groups numbering hundreds of young people
from seven schools in Hammersmith & Fulham and all nine Islington secondary
schools.

Excerpts of the concert will be broadcast live on BBC Television for Children
in Need and it is hoped that the concert will be broadcast live on Radio.
