St Joseph's win football competition

Islington secures funding to get children playing football

CEA@Islington’s School Sport Co-ordinator Programme (SSCO) and Islington Council have secured funding to start a new football initiative in six Islington primary schools. The ‘3 Lions’ initiative was devised by the Football Association (FA) to encourage more children to play football.

A five-week coaching programme culminated today in competition between all schools at Mount Carmel College . St Joseph's Primary School emerged victorious.

The 3 Lions initiative aims to concentrate on introducing groups of children in Years 3 and 4 to football, particularly those that may not get as many opportunities to play football outside school.

The coaching scheme is currently being expanded to include a further 18 Islington primary schools, who will go on to receive coaching and equipment that will enable the children to get a real taste for the game.
