Ofsted says Grafton School is brilliant!

Grafton Primary School has received a glowing Ofsted report following its recent inspection in October. According to the report, Grafton ‘provides a high quality education with many outstanding features’. Headteacher, Nitsa Sergides, receives recognition for having ‘vibrant and dynamic vision’ which ‘inspires and energises staff and pupils alike’.

Under new Ofsted regulations, schools are inspected in seven main areas and awarded a grade (1-4) for each area (where 1 is outstanding and 4 is inadequate). Grafton School was given outstanding grade 1s in every area, including achievement and standards; personal development and well-being; teaching and learning and leadership and management.

The report notes the following points, which contribute to the excellent report:

  • The school is a haven for pupils, who feel safe and secure. Parents are delighted with the support offered to their children;

  • Superb teamwork under the creative and dynamic leadership of the headteacher means that the school is able to make an incredible difference to pupils’ development;

  • The school offers a dynamic curriculum full of life and energy;

  • The quality of teaching is outstanding. Teachers know how to challenge pupils of differing abilities;

  • Pupils are extremely enthusiastic and proud of their school: “Like school? We love it!”

Following the release of the school’s Ofsted report, inspectors wrote to the Grafton pupils and said: ‘We think your school is brilliant! Everybody works so well to make it a happy place where you can learn lots of new and exciting things.’

Grafton School Headteacher, Nitsa Sergides, said: ‘We are very proud of our school and celebrate all its achievements and challenges. What makes this school an exception is that it has established itself as a family for children, parents and staff, and this is very special and unique to the ethos of Grafton School and its community.’

Bill Clark, Director of Schools’ Services, CEA@Islington said: ‘What an outstanding report! There can be no higher praise from Ofsted than achieving grade 1s in all inspection categories. Nitsa and her team are to be congratulated on the school’s huge success.’

Councillor James Kempton, Islington Council’s Executive Member for Children said: ‘This is one of the best Ofsted reports for an Islington school and a fantastic achievement for Grafton. Inspectors said that the school 'provides high quality education with many outstanding features'. The quality of teaching was outstanding; pupils feel safe and secure; and parents were delighted at the support offered to their children.

‘The school has fantastic leadership under Nitsa and Ofsted has confirmed what we already knew; Grafton is a school that we should all be very proud of. Everyone has worked so hard to make the school what is - congratulations to you all.’
