Islington schools celebrate Key Stage 2 success
The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) released Key Stage 2 value
added figures for primary schools across the country on Friday 2 December.
Councillor James Kempton, Executive Member for Children said:
"We should congratulate our children and their teachers on the year-on-year
improvement in Islington's results since 2003. We can be especially proud
that children's results in Islington rise faster between the ages of 7 and 11
than almost anywhere else in England. We are in the top ten out of all 150
education authorities in England for improving primary schoolchildren's test
scores, and we this achievement is a tribute to the hard work and dedication
of teachers in Islington schools."
Bill Clark, Director for Schools’ Services, CEA@Islington said: ‘These results
show that Islington primary schools improve children’s education between the
ages of seven and eleven. The value added figure published by the DfES shows
that overall, primary schools in the borough are adding more value between Key
Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 than schools nationally.
‘Islington is now joint 10th in the whole country for value added Key Stage 2
figures, which is an excellent achievement and a steady improvement on last
year’s 17th position.
‘Special congratulations must go to St Mary Magdalene, Hargrave Park, St
Andrew’s, St Peter’s and St Paul’s, St John Evangelist and Grafton schools who
came in the top 5% of schools nationally based on value added measures.’

Stage 1. The individual scores are averaged to give a score for the school,
which is represented as a number based around 100. This indicates the value
