EGA students raise £1,000 for Wateraid with Origami cards
Year 10 students at Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Language College (EGA) have
been using their creative talents to raise money for WaterAid - a charity
which enables clean water and better sanitation to be installed in villages in
Africa and Asia.
The girls made Origami designs for the front of greetings cards, and the cards
were then packaged and sold, with all profits raised going towards the
charity. Cards were sold through friends, colleagues and are on sale in three
Covent garden shops and two shops in Brighton.
Katie Spooner from WaterAid collected a cheque for £1,000 raised by the girls
at a school assembly on Tuesday 13 December.
"It's a fantastic effort and the money will make a real difference. I'd like
to say a big thankyou to everybody at EGA who has supported our work." She
said.
The school runs weekly lunchtime Origami clubs with the help of maths teacher
and British Origami Society member Helen Holtam. The collection of funds was
officiated by the school Finance Officer and the EGA School Fund.
Elizabeth Garrett Andersen was recently featured in Ofsted's list of
Particularly Successful Schools and Colleges 2004/2005, and was voted in the
Top 10 Most Friendly Schools by website Friends Reunited.
