Highbury Grove School wins silver award for study support
Highbury Grove
secondary school has been given a QiSS silver award, which recognises Quality
in Study Support. Study support includes activities and learning which take
place outside the usual school day.
Study support is proven to be effective in raising standards of pupil
attainment and increasing pupil motivation. Last year, academic results at
Highbury Grove improved, with the proportion of pupils attaining the benchmark
5+ A*-C grade GCSEs increasing from 28% to 37%.
Study support:
-
is a key part of strategies for school improvement;
-
raises pupil motivation, self-esteem and achievement;
-
promotes collaboration between schools and other organisations; public
libraries; youth services; the arts; sport; and business;
-
involves young people as decision makers, peer educators and evaluators of
their own learning.
Bill Clark, Director of Schools' Services, CEA@Islington said:
"Congratulations to Highbury Grove. It's great to see that the efforts of
teaching staff at the school are being rewarded with a nationally recognised
standard for excellence in study support."
