Running the marathon with Matthew Pinsent
Richard Cloudesley headteacher, Anne Corbett, will be running this year’s
Flora London Marathon with four-time Olympic gold medallist, Matthew Pinsent
CBE, to raise money for the Stroke Association. Anne won a competition in The
Times newspaper after successfully writing 200 words about why she wanted to
be part of Matthew’s marathon team.
30 people from all over the country were selected by The Times in January to
train with Matthew and run the 26-mile course with him on the 23rd April 2006.
Anne Corbett, Headteacher of Richard Cloudesley Special School said: “This is
such a fantastic opportunity for me, both personally and professionally. At
school this term we will be raising money for the Stroke Association with a
focus on children and strokes. It is sometimes forgotten that children are
affected by this illness as well as older people.
“The training schedule is extremely tough – 13 weeks is a very short time go
from running 0 to 26 miles! However, I am relishing the challenge!”
So far Anne has had one training day with Matthew and is looking forward to
two more before the big race; a run of 16 miles on Sunday 15th February and a
20-mile run on 2nd April. As part of her training regime, Anne was fitness
tested and had a cholesterol test to check that she was healthy enough to
participate. As a result, Anne has decided to offer simple health checks to
members of her staff to encourage a healthier school.
Any donations for the Stroke Association can be sent to Anne Corbett, care of
Richard Cloudesley School.
