EGA launches new tennis courts
Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Language College (EGA) will be officially opening
their new £126,000 tennis courts on Wednesday 7th June 2006. The courts were
funded by the Big Lottery Fund – a Government initiative set up in 2004 to
provide funding for charities, the voluntary sector, health, education and the
environment.
The courts will be used by residents from the local community and pupils from
EGA andlocal primary, giving them an opportunity to access a state of the art,
safe playing surface. The courts are also floodlit, which will allow them to
play tennis throughout the whole year, rather than just through the summer
months when tennis is traditionally played.
EGA will be giving local primary schools the opportunity to use the tennis
courts during curriculum time and there will be opportunities for the primary
schools to have after school clubs on the courts as well.
In the future it is planned that the courts will be used to hold school
holiday schemes, adult coaching sessions and adult only tennis sessions.
