With record results, more are choosing to stay at Islington Schools
A-level results in Islington are improving twice as fast as nationally. That's
according to the provisional figures released today (Thursday) as delighted
students collected their results.
And the success doesn't stop there. The number of A-grades achieved has soared
from 4.9 per cent to 13.6 per cent, beating the national improvement rate of
just one per cent, and with almost double the number of entries over the last
three years, more and more students are choosing to stay at secondary schools
in Islington.
The hard work of sixth form pupils and staff from Islington's three-school
Sixth Form Consortium of Central Foundation, Highbury Fields and Highbury
Grove secondary schools, has led to the provisional borough-wide result of
186.4 (Average Point Score per entrant) improving by 28.7 points.
Councillor Ursula Woolley, Executive Member for Children and Young People,
said: 'I would like to join parents and staff in congratulating everyone who
got their A-level results today. Islington students should be very proud of
what they have achieved and I wish them every success with whatever they go on
to do next. Congratulations too to the all staff at the Islington Sixth Form
Consortium who helped them towards these fantastic results."
Eleanor Schooling, Director of Education Services at CEA@Islington, the
council's education partner said: "Well done to all the students who received
their A-level results today. Over the last few years more and more pupils have
decided to stay at either their secondary school or at City & Islington
College to take A-levels or similar vocational courses.
"A-levels open up a huge range of possibilities for young people. I wish
Islington's A-level candidates every success with whatever they choose to do
next, whether it's taking up a university place or entering the world of work.
Thanks to all the teachers and headteachers of Central Foundation, Highbury
Fields and Highbury Grove for their commitment to this year's sixth formers
and for raising the standards of education in Islington for another year."
