Clerkenwell Parochial's School Council holds a meeting with the Mayor
Pupils from Clerkenwell Parochial Primary School shared their hopes for the
future of their school at a special School Council meeting chaired by
Islington’s Mayor, Councillor Jyoti Vaja.
Parent, teacher and governor representatives also joined pupils at the meeting
so that the whole school community could contribute their views on the topic
of “what do we want our school to be like in the future?”
The School Council meeting was held in the Council Chamber at Islington’s Town
Hall, and the Mayor helped the children to think about what they and their
teachers could do to help their dreams for the school to come true.
All the children on the School Council started the meeting by telling the
Mayor the things that they liked about their school at the moment, as well as
things they would like to see in the future. Clerkenwell Parochial’s
headteacher, Alison Forbes, took minutes at the meeting to take back to the
school with her. Some of the things the children wanted included:
-
"The best SATs results in Islington and to be a high achieving school"
-
“A more colourful playground with flowers and plants”
-
"No bullying"
-
"Better recycling facilities"
Alison Forbes, Headteacher of Clerkenwell Parochial Primary School said: “It
was very exciting for the children to hold their School Council meeting in
Islington’s Council Chamber, just like the borough’s real councillors do. The
children spoke very eloquently in front of the Mayor and I enjoyed hearing
their visions for the future of the school. There are certainly a number of
things that I look forward to introducing into our school.”
