Applying for a Secondary School place for entry September 2009

If your child is in Year 6, you will need to make arrangements for him/her to  start secondary in September 2009. If you live in Islington, you will automatically receive the secondary brochure and application form in early September 2008. If you do not live in Islington, you can still apply for Islington schools, but you will need to obtain your application form from the borough that you live in. The closing date for application is 24 October 2008 . 

If you prefer, you can apply online from 1 September 2008.  

Applying for a Primary School Place (Reception)

If your child was born between 1.9.03 - 31.8.04  you should have already applied and secured a primary school place to start in either September 2008 or January 2009. If you have not made an application, please call the School Admissions Section on Tel: 0207 527 5836/5516 as soon as possible.

If your child was born between 1.9.04 - 31.8.05, you will need to apply for a primary school place to start in either September 2009 or January 2010 (depending on your child's date of birth) from 17 November 2008. You will be able to obtain the primary booklet and application form form the School Admissions Section.  The closing date for application is 2 February 2009.

The School Admissions Section is located in the Municipal Buildings, 222 Upper Street, Islington, N1 1XR.

The London Borough of Islington has 45 primary schools and 10 Secondary schools. You can find more about these schools by going to the schools information page.

The School Admissions Team is responsible for the following:

• The admissions process for children starting primary school (reception stage of entry)

• The admissions process for children transferring from primary school to secondary school (transfer stage at year 6)

• The placement of secondary age children that have moved to the borough of Islington from another part of the country or from abroad, know as casual admissions

• Appeals for children that have been turned down for a place at an Islington primary or secondary community school

In addition to the above, the Admissions Team can assist you with any other enquiries you may have in relation to school admissions.
