Islington Schools Admission Forum
Islington Local authority has had an Admissions Forum in operation since 1999
in order to ensure a fair admissions system that promotes social equity, does
not advantage one child compared to another and which is straightforward and
easy for parents to understand. From February 2007, the new Code of Practice
came into force which gave Admission Forums more powers and responsibilities
and as a result the current Forum has been reviewed in line with the new
regulations.
Admission Forums provide a vehicle for admission authorities and other key
interested parties to discuss the effectiveness of local arrangements,
consider how to deal with difficult admission issues and advice admission
authorities on ways in which their arrangements can be improved. Admissions
authorities of all maintained school and Academies, when exercising their
functions, must have regard to any advice by the Forum.
Admissions Forums also have an important power to publish an annual report.
This report is a valuable tool in ensuring an open and fair admission system
as admission authorities must have regard to any advice published by the
Admission Forum. The reports will be drawn upon by the School commissioner on
drawing up his two yearly national review of fair access. Please see on the
right-hand side, Islington's 2007 Admission Forum Annual Report.
You can also find on the right-hand menu, the current Forum membership, the
Admission Forum Terms of Reference and the minutes of the last three meetings.
