Secondary admissions

From September 2005, the admissions procedure changed as a result of new legislation - find out more in our guide to the Pan London Coordinated Admissions System.

The secondary transfer brochure is released in July each year, and every child about to finish year 5 will receive a copy, either via their primary school (if they attend an Islington primary school), or it will be sent to the home address during the Summer break.

If you do not live in Islington, and/or your child does not attend an Islington primary school, you will need to contact the School Admissions Section on the number below to obtain a brochure. The application form is available in early September from your home borough or you can apply online. It is important that you start considering the schools early as the closing date is in October and late applicants are less likely to get one of their preferred schools. The brochure contains detailed information about the application process and a section with specific information about each school/academy.

Throughout June/July and September, Islington primary schools can arrange for Admission Officers to visit their school to talk to parents about the process of transferring. Please speak to your headteacher to find out if a meeting has been arranged at your child's primary school.

During September the School Admissions Section organise the Secondary Schools Exhibition, a two-day event attended by all Islington secondary schools. This is a great opportunity for you and your child to get all the information you need. Each secondary school will have members of staff and current pupils, who you will be able to talk to. The Admissions Section will also be there to help with admission queries and to give information on viable options for schools.
