Children with hands up in the air

Application results

You will be informed of the outcome of your application by letter which is sent 1st class on 2 March 2009 by your local authority. If you made your application online, you will be able to log on from 8.30am on 3 March to the website using the username and password you set up. You will also receive a letter in the post which contains more detailed information about your application outcome. The letter will tell you which school you have been offered. If it is not possible to offer your child a place at any of your preferred schools the letter will explain the reasons for this.

How do I accept the offer of a school place?

If you want to accept the offer of a school place, you must fill in the acceptance slip, attached to the offer letter, and return it by 16 March 2009 to your home authority. If you do not return the slip by this date, the place may be offered to another child. If you are likely to be away when we send out the offer of a school place, please let your child's primary school headteacher or the School Admissions Section know. If you are an Islington resident and we cannot offer you a place at any of your preferred schools we will contact you giving details of alternative schools with vacancies.

Visiting the school that has offered your child a place

The headteacher of the school where your child has been offered a place will invite you to visit before the end of the summer term. This will give you another chance to look around the school and ask more questions.

What can I do if my child is not offered a place at my preferred school?

You can appeal if your child is not offered a place at any of your preferred Islington community schools you must send your appeal by 23 March 2009. You will need to fill in an appeal form, which you can get from the School Admissions Section (Phone 020 7527 5836). You can also access the appeal form via this website.

The School Admissions Section will be able to answer any questions you may have about appeals. They can also give you information about sources of independent advice. Your appeal will be heard by an independent appeals panel during May, June and July 2009. If you are appealing against the decision not to offer your child a place, you should still accept the offer of a place at the alternative school you have been offered (if any). This means that, if your appeal is not successful, you will still have a school place for your child. You can also appeal against the decision not to offer your child a place at an Islington voluntary aided/ foundation school or Academy. You can get an appeal form from the school. You must return your form to the school by the date given. Accepting a place at another school will not affect your chances of your appeal being successful.

For details on how to appeal for a place at a school outside Islington you will need to contact the school admissions section responsible for that school.
