Out of School Hours Learning / Study Support

Out of School Hours Learning (OSHL) is an umbrella term given to learning activities that take place outside school hours, i.e. before and after the school day, during lunchtimes, over weekends and holidays.

Attendance is voluntary, and young people have the opportunity to work in mixed age groups and experience different teaching and learning styles.

OSHL is also often known as Study Support or, more traditionally, Extra Curricular Activity.

The range of projects on offer in Islington is extensive, with some activities being held in schools and others in libraries, theatres, football clubs, community centres and UK Online Centres. Activities are staffed and run by a variety of individuals, including teachers, other school staff members, parents, specialist tutors and local provider organisations.

OSHL activities currently on offer in Islington Primary, Secondary and Special schools include Cookery, Gardening, Basketball, African Drumming, Yoga, Science, Tennis, Art, ICT, Girls' Football, Revision, Juggling, Animation, Guitar, Homework, Singing, Languages, Astronomy, Maths, Salsa and Self-Defence.
