Islington's schools

Islington Schools

Islington secondary schools are being transformed. GCSEs have dramatically improved, millions of pounds are being invested in state-of-the-art new buildings and facilities; specialist teaching and personalised learning plans will ensure that every child is offered the best possible opportunity to enjoy and achieve.

Islington schools have secured over £100 million from the "Building Schools for the Future" fund, to invest in the best possible education for Islington's children. Over the coming years every secondary school will be substantially refurbished and some will be completely rebuilt. Offering the chance to learn in a safe and clean environment giving Islington's children the best possible start. A brand new secondary school and Academy are planned to increase the range of choices available.

Our schools will open for longer and offer a greater diversity of learning activities, operating at the very heart of local communities. When you pick an Islington secondary school, our "one school" approach to education will mean that your child benefits from the shared expertise, knowledge and specialisms of every secondary school in the borough. The latest information and communications technologies will make it possible to offer each child the best tailor-made learning opportunities from each centre of excellence across the borough - whether that's in science, business and enterprise, sport, performing arts, languages, technology or mathematics.

A great future for your child

Education and learning are at the heart of young people's daily experience, and we are committed to improving this experience by transforming the physical environment in secondary schools, alongside continuing to raise achievement and aspirations. Islington Council wants its secondary schools to be the first choice for all Islington children and their parents.

  • Every child and young person will be offered a positive and attractive learning experience through creative teaching, an exciting curriculum and an innovative and inclusive environment.
  • Every child or young person between 14-19 will have a learning and individual career development pathway to suit him or her that fits for work, university, further learning, and for life as an adult.
  • Every young person will also be offered a wide range of activities outside school or college to participate in and enjoy.

The millions in investment secured from "Building Schools for the Future" presents significant opportunities for Islington to design and build the best possible learning environments in secondary schools. Islington's schools have a great future, and your child will have a great future with us.
