SSCO London - Olympics 2012

Olympic Games Twinned Country Theme

Each year, leading up to the 2012 Games in London, Islington schools will be twinned with an Olympic nation from the top 65 poorest countries in the world. Schools will be encouraged to develop cross-curricular projects associated with their Olympic Country and the SSCO programme has provided information to support this research. Other projects will enable schools to produce their own display of Olympic Games artwork, build their own model of an 'Olympic Torch' and build their own 'mechanism' for pupils to be able to parade their twinned country board high above their heads at the start of borough sports events. Each school will be able to choose a different country every year and this will hopefully widen the opportunities for pupils to learn about other countries in the lead up to the Games.

Each year, the country that schools are twinned with will change, hopefully this will widen the opportunities for pupils to learn about other countries in the lead up to the London 2012 Olympic Games. For this reason we ask schools to take good care of their display board so that a different school can use it next year.
