SSCO - Competition Manager
Paul Williams is the new Competition Manager for Islington. His role is to
manage and co-ordinate the organisation and delivery of inter-school
competitions and create further opportunities for children, from Key Stage 1
through to KS4, to compete in sport - ensuring they are high-quality, fun
environments.
He works with both Islington and Camden School Sport Partnerships and is
managed by the Senior Competition Manager for Central London but works very
closely with Sarah Fretwell (PDM) and Islington's SSCo programme and their
Camden equivalents.
From January 2008, Competition Managers nationwide will begin to work in
collaboration with School Sport Coordinators, National Governing Bodies,
Regional Development Officers, local clubs, Sports Development Officers, local
school sport associations and federations and - most essentially - schools, in
order to begin to implement the competition frameworks compiled by the Youth
Sport Trust and individual NGBs.
New National Competition Framework
The new National Competition Framework, written in consultation with an
ever-growing number of National Governing Bodies of sport, the Youth Sport
Trust, and key partners, identifies the level of competition that is
appropriate at all ages across the school age spectrum. Competition Managers
will work towards putting this framework into action. The overall framework is
outlined below.

Competitive sport is changing in this country and we hope you will join us in
ensuring as many of your pupils as possible get the chance to experience
representing their school - giving them the chance to learn about themselves,
teamwork and fair play through participating in competitive sport.
Competition Registers
In order to ensure Paul knows how many pupils are taking part in competitions
he will be asking all schools to complete a Competition Register every time
they take part. The form can be downloaded on the right hand side of this
page. The form asks for the total number of competitors, those that are new to
competition and a breakdown by ability/disability and ethnicity.
It would be great if schools could complete this as they enter a competition
online, or if they print off the form and bring a completed version on the day
of the competition.
