Welcome to the Arts & Sports team’s site!
We are a team of artists, musicians, and sportsmen & women with primary and
secondary school teaching/leadership backgrounds that are committed to raising
standards of achievement and the profile of the Arts and PE/Sport in schools
and within the community.
As a combined team we at Arts & Sports have the chance to offer exciting
opportunities for Islington pupils, drawing on the energy and vitality of our
local talent. We have an exciting programme of events that you can take part

As a team, our service aims are:

To promote creative experiences by establishing and developing music, dance
and drama centres throughout the borough including the schools’ youth theatre
and various music ensembles.

To provide new and enhanced out of school hours sporting opportunities for all
young people, including out of school hours learning, non-competitive
participation and competition.

To develop effective partnerships between schools, LBI Arts and Creative
Development, arts agencies, other outside agencies and national organisations.

To improve PE and school sport programmes by establishing and developing links
within and between the families of schools (particularly around the KS2/3
interface).

To develop and implement a PE and School Sport Strategy, as part of School
Development Plans, through working in partnership with key strategic
organisations and providers in the area. Linking with Borough strategic plans,
as appropriate (e.g. EDP, EAZ and Leisure Strategy and complementing national
initiatives such as TOPS, Healthy School Scheme, Active Sports, NOF 3 PE and
Sports Facilities and Sporting Playgrounds).

To improve standards of Arts and PE/Sports provision through school
applications to national awards.

To provide Arts and PE/Sport training and support for teachers, pupils, and
Adults Other Than Teachers (AOTTS).

To support teachers and departments through the Ofsted inspection process.

To increase all young people’s participation in community sport through
creating and strengthening links with sports clubs, leisure facilities and
community providers
