Safeguarding Children in Education

The EWS will give advice and support in relation to child protection matters, although it is expected that schools will make referrals directly to Social Services where necessary. It provides information on multi-agency child protection training and delivers training in individual schools.

Advice procedures and referrals

Detailed multi-agency child protection procedures are to be found in the London Child Protection Procedures.

Specific procedures for the education service in Islington are found within the Education Service Child Protection Procedures .

General guidance on Safeguarding Children can be found in the DfES produced Safeguarding in Education Guidance.

A referral form for use by schools to confirm in writing conversations they have had with social services following concerns they have about children.

Training
A full range of training is provided directly to schools and other education services through the Education Welfare Service, this training is provided either to individual schools to suit their needs, i.e. at staff meetings or at INSET days, or through service wide seminars and training sessions.

In addition a full range of training is provided through the multi-agency Area Child Protection Committee (ACPC ).
