Behaviour support
Visit the BSS area
The BSS acts as the co-ordinator of a series of service areas. These include
New Directions, a full time centre providing education, social and
health support for young people from 10 - 16 presenting emotional, social and
behavioural difficulties. The Pupil Referral units cover Primary, KS3 and KS4.
There is also a small, multidisciplinary outreach service to Primary and
Secondary schools.
BSS continues to co-ordinate the Behaviour and Attendance (B&A) strand of
Excellence in Cities (formally BIP) and the same strand in the new KS3
Teaching and Learning Strategy.
On the basis of planning meetings with headteachers and lead behaviour
professionals the outreach component of BSS can offer support and training to
schools in the following areas:
-
audits, policy and protocol guidance on inclusion, behaviour and attendance;
-
integrating positive behaviour and classroom management into teaching and
learning - specifically focused on KS3 over the coming academic year;
-
work with departments and in the classroom to implement positive management
strategies;
-
support for individual teachers, NQTs and new teachers to Islington in focused
courses and in the classroom;
-
group work in anger management, social skills, study skills, bullying and
harassment etc; and
-
individual pupil support.
