LEARNING AND COGNITION SERVICE AREA OUTREACH SERVICE
The Learning and Cognition Service Area provides a range of support to mainstream schools in supporting and including pupils with learning and cognition difficulties. Most services will be tailored to individual school requirements; such support includes advice and guidance on the following:
• PIVATS
• target setting for individuals
• IEP writing
• differentiation for learning outcomes
• building up differentiated resources
• general strategies for learning and cognition
• interpreting statements - from statements to learning
• advice for teaching assistants supporting pupils with learning difficulties
• support for teachers
• working with parents
• using symbols
• using Makaton in the classroom
Staff from all Islington schools are also invited to visit Samuel Rhodes School (by appointment) to see examples of good practice and teaching approaches for including pupils with learning and cognition difficulties.
