What are the likely time committments?

EP time is carefully allocated between the various institutions, according to identified levels of need e.g. primary schools receive 3-8 three hour visits during the course of a year.

A consultation meeting with parents, school staff, and other professional takes approximately 45 minutes. Work with an individual child varies. Individual assessment may take up to one and a half hours. A classroom observation lasts up to 1 hour.

The EP may need to see the pupil over several sessions and in different contexts. A follow-up consultation meeting may take between 30 minutes and 1 hour.

If I am concerned about my child, what should I do?

First, discuss your concerns with your child's Key Worker, Class Teacher, Form Tutor or Head of Year.

Should your concerns continue, you need to discuss these with the school's Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator or Headteacher.

They will consider your concerns in relation to the national Code of Practice for Children with Special Educational Needs. They will also be able to provide you with information about this.

Sometimes you and the school will want to involve the EP. The SENCO will discuss this with the EP who may then make arrangements to meet with you on a further visit. Should you have any questions that you feel the school can't answer about requesting EP involvement, please contact us.
