Hearing impairment

We are:

  • two qualified teachers of the deaf
  • experienced in working with children who have hearing loss from birth to 19
  • we work in homes, early years settings, mainstream and special schools

Our service provides support and advice on

  • all aspects of hearing loss
  • the inclusion of pupils with hearing loss in mainstream schools and special schools

Our service is available to

  • staff
    • in early years settings
    • mainstream primary and secondary schools
    • special schools
  • families/carers of babies and pre school deaf children
  • pupils themselves, their parents/carers and staff on the implications and management of hearing

Advice

  • to support ‘Inclusion’ in early years and mainstream settings
  • on self help strategies for children/young people
  • about effective management of hearing loss at school and at home
  • to support Literacy and Numeracy (including Wave 3 advice)
  • on specialist resources
  • about digital hearing aids, radio aids, sound field amplification systems and cochlear implants
  • about Special arrangements for SATS at all Key Stages and for GCSEs
