Looked After Children
The REACH Team
The REACH Team is a multi-agency,
multi-disciplinary team, based within the Policy and Performance Service. The
team aims to raise the educational achievement of children and young people
who are in care to Islington.
The REACH Team provides training, advice and guidance and support to schools,
Children's Social Care Service, young people, foster carers and Corporate
Parents to improve the educational outcomes of children looked after.
The REACH Team will:

Promote continuity and stability of education, even when care placements are
disrupted.

Facilitate the Personal Education Plan (PEP) and ensure its effectiveness.

Track the educational progress of children in care to Islington.

Monitor the attendance of children in care to Islington.

Coordinate and deliver training to Corporate Parents

Support the work of designated teachers.

Provide support, advice and guidance to teachers, carers, social workers and
parents.

Work in active partnership with other agencies and services.

Provide direct educational support and interim alternative education
arrangements where deemed appropriate to individual need.

Celebrate the achievements of children looked after.
All Islington schools have a named REACH Team member contact and receive
regular information and news through ‘REACH OUT’, the newsletter for children
looked after and education in Islington.

A
detailed report for 2006-07 is provided on the educational outcomes of
Islington’s children looked after over a number of years.
Exciting News!
As of the 1st of May 2008, The REACH Team will be developing a Virtual School
for Children Looked After to Islington. Hermione Michaud, the manager of the
REACH Team has just been appointed as the head teacher of the Virtual School.
