Programs Supporting Literacy

These are a few examples of the many software packages available to schools to support pupils' literacy needs. CEA@Islington are not responsible for the content of external sites and inclusion here does not represent a recommendation.

Penfriend is a tool for those with dyslexia or physical disabilities, adding word prediction, speech and an on-screen keyboard to almost any other software. It offers support for users with special needs, helping with spelling, confidence and speed of composing text. It will also read out almost any text, such as web pages or word-processed documents

Has all the features of Penfriend XP, with additional screen reading and language capabilities.

A reading programme for children just beginning to read. This package of software and accompanying books is designed for slower readers or children with special needs.

Colour “overlays” on a computer screen that may help some dyslexic readers
