Islington Schools for the Future
Building a brighter future for Islington’s schools
Islington secondary schools are being transformed. GCSEs have improved.
Millions of pounds are being invested in new state-of-the-art buildings and
facilities. Specialist teaching and personalised learning plans will ensure
that every child is offered the best possible opportunity to enjoy and
achieve.
Education and learning are at the heart of young people’s daily experience.
Islington Council is committed to transforming this experience by improving
the physical environment in our secondary schools, while continuing to raise
aspirations. We want our secondary schools to be the first choice for all
Islington children and their parents.
Islington schools have secured over £100 million from the ‘Building Schools
for the Future’ fund. This is an opportunity for Islington to design and build
the best possible learning environments. Every secondary school will be
substantially refurbished and some will be completely rebuilt. In addition,
two Academies are planned to increase the range of choices available.
Highbury Grove (including enhanced 6th form facility and the relocation of
secondary element of Samuel Rhodes School), Holloway and St Aloysius schools
have been identified as the first three schools to benefit from the
multi-million-pound cash boost. The money is largely is being provided by
Building Schools for the Future programme. Over the coming months the council,
Cambridge Education @ Islington and secondary schools will be working together
on plans that will transform school buildings. Islington schools have a great
future and we want you to work with us to create that future for the children
of Islington.
